Niles North hosts Family Fitness Night
The Niles North Physical Welfare Department, along with the American Heart Association and POLAR heart monitors, invite Niles North students and their families to attend Family Fitness Night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tonight (Nov. 29) in the Cardio Lab Room (1950) at Niles North High School, 9800 Lawler Ave., Skokie.
Families will be able to experience POLAR heart rate monitors and hear presentations from the American Heart Association on healthy living, as well as a cooking demonstration.
This is a free event for the entire family. Tour the fitness facilities available to Niles North students, and learn about the POLAR Gx system that P.E. teachers and students use to monitor target heart rates. Participants should wear workout clothes and be ready to move. The American Heart Association will conduct free heart screenings, and families can try out the equipment in the cardio lab.

Fine Arts fund-raiser presents a Golden Opportunity
Niles Fine Arts Parents and Patrons is hosting a fund-raiser with Tri-State Gold Parties on Dec. 1 to raise funds for the Niles North Fine Arts program.
Bring your unwanted gold or broken jewelry to the event and receive instant cash back. Twenty percent of all proceeds will be donated back to the Niles North Fine Arts Parents and Patrons to help with trips and scholarships like the theater department’s upcoming trip to New York. The buying date is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 1 at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 5201 Old Orchard Road, Skokie.
Magic in relationships
Travel to the out-of-the-way town of Almost, Maine, where the icy cold of the northern region illuminates the crucial moments in relationships.
Several characters face a moment of choice, and the audience is treated to moments of magic underneath the Northern Lights. Performances are at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 7 and 8 at Niles North High School in the Drama Performance Center at 9800 N. Lawler, Skokie. Reserve tickets by calling the box office at (847) 626-2122. Tickets are $10. A free community performance will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 6.
The cast of “Almost, Maine” includes: Prologue: David Gilbert as Pete and Camille Paskind as Ginette. Her Heart: Noah Zeidman as Man, and Athanasia Giannetos as Woman. Sad and Glad: Glenn Weissman as Jimmy, Nina Roy as Sandrine, and Sarah Alkyer as Waitress. This Hurts: Christopher Khoshaba as Steve, and Robin Wallace as Mervalyn. Getting It Back: Ryan Loach as Lendall, and Erin Rourke as Gayle. They Fell: Sebastijan Torgus as Randy, and Evan Sturt as Chad. Where It Went: Martin Wiviott as Phil, and Emma Decker as Marci. Story of Hope: Alex Hammond as Man, and Carissa Yau as Hope. Seeing the Thing: Justin Shannon as Dave, and Danielle Kropveld as Rhonda.
