Regina honored with award
Regina Dominican was honored recently at a reception held at the New York Academy of Sciences in Manhattan as a winner of the prestigious Edison Award. It was a celebration of the internationally renowned 2012 Edison Best New Product Awards in which Regina received the high distinction of a silver medal in her category of living, working and learning environments.
“Hats off to Regina Dominican students and their teachers for adapting the way they teach and learn to incorporate the rigor and problem-solving skills derived from facing real world problems. A representative from the President’s Council on Jobs once told us that what Regina Dominican is doing is exactly what U.S. leaders are saying needs to happen in all of our schools. Regina Dominican is taking a leadership role within the U.S. educational landscape,” said Jean Egmon of Third Angle, Inc., an education and innovation expert affiliated with Regina Dominican.
Regina was first announced as a finalist in February in recognition of its innovative approach to education. Regina launched this new educational platform during the 2011-12 academic year, as part of a three-year phase-in plan.
The awards are named after Thomas Alva Edison whose extraordinary new product development methods and innovative achievements garnered him 1,093 U.S. patents and made him a household name around the world. The ballot of nominees is judged by a panel of more than 3,000 individuals, including members of the Marketing Executives Networking Group, an organization comprising America’s top marketing professionals and academics.
“With our emphasis on innovation and trying new things, let’s remember that Regina Dominican remains that special place where every girl blossoms into who God meant her to be. It is a place where the girls and teachers have a love and respect for each other that is truly phenomenal,” said Sister Mary Margaret Pachucki, president of Regina.
Regina will be hosting Thomas Edison’s great-grand niece, Sarah Miller Caldicott, herself an expert in innovation and co-author of Innovate Like Edison, this fall as part of the Regina Dominican Leadership Institute.
