Wilmette’s own Joanne Stein, noted lecturer and educator, will present the “Story of Jewish Comedians in America”. Also a performance by the Thodos Dance Chicago Youth Ensemble, and an exclusive sneak peek of Ann Reinking and Melissa Thodos’ newest collaboration, A Light in the Dark, the story of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan. Catholic Charities 12th Annual D’Vine Affair, a Tasting of Fine Wines and Benefit: Jan. 27, Union League Club of Chicago, 65 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago. Select from more than 250 wines offered by over 90 vintners from around the world during the tasting, scheduled from 2-6 p.m., many of which will be poured by the vintners themselves. Local expert Bob Bansberg, Chicago sommelier, presents wine appreciation seminars at 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Pat Fegan leads a seminar at 2:30 p.m. The event features a silent auction where guests can shop for special wine offerings, wine accessories and gift certificates for fine dining. Tickets for a “stock you wine cellar” raffle will also be available. For an additional cost, there will be an exclusive pre-tasting guided tour at 1 p.m. During the pre-tasting, guests can learn more about the vintners and the wines available for tasting from leading experts in the industry, including members of the Glunz family. Proceeds directly support Catholic Charities’ Self-Sufficiency Programs in Cook and Lake Counties. Tickets for the tasting and seminar are $125 per person; additional cost for the pre-tasting guided tour is $50 per person. A three-course dinner will be held at the Union League Club at 5 p.m. for an additional $80 per person; wine is included compliments of Louis Glunz Wines, Inc. Business casual attire is recommended.
