Steppenwolf Auxiliary Council’s 10th Anniversary Red or White Ball: 8 p.m. April 5, Venue One, 1044 W. Randolph St., Chicago. Evening of music, dancing, cocktails, local cuisine and a silent auction, and VIP reception at 7 p.m. Proceeds benefit Steppenwolf for Young Adults, the theater’s nationally recognized arts education program. Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association Annual Benefit, “Secret Agent Night from GLASA with Love”: 6:30 p.m., April 13, Knauz Classic Car Showroom, 775 Rockland Road, Lake Bluff. The Glencoe PTO Benefit Fashion Show/Fundraiser/Luncheon: 11 a.m. April 17, Highland Park Country Club, 1201 Park Ave W Highland Park. The event features an exciting fashion show featuring a number of the local fashion and beauty businesses from the North Shore such as Ami Ami, Chalk, The Shop @ Equinox, Frannie, Green Gable Denim and Such, Krista K, Shirise, Skandal and So Shee, among others. Vendors will be selling their wares at the event and donating 20% of their sales to benefit the Glencoe PTO. Lunch will be served at noon (approximately) and the fashion show will follow. Fashion Week in which many local stores will participate in the Style Saver discount card from April 18-26, will follow the Glencoe PTO event. The Antiques & Garden Fair Chicago Botanic Garden: April 18-21. Features works in antique garden furnishings, botanical art and home and garden design by more than 100 dealers from Europe and the United States. Indoor display gardens interpreting the theme, “Color in the Garden: An Artist’s View,” and will be donated and installed by premier landscape designers. Lectures/talks by Jeanne Pinsof Nolan, Michael S. Smith and Charles Stick. Tickets purchased on or before April 18 for either the Smith or Stick lecture are $65; $60 in advance for Garden members; after April 18, they are each $70; $65 for Garden members. A combination ticket for the Smith and Stick lectures is available for $105; $100 for Garden members. Lecture ticket purchase includes a three-day Fair pass. Fair hours are from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets purchased on or before April 18 are $15; $12 for Garden members. Tickets purchased after April 18 are $18; $15 for Garden members. A three-day pass is $20 for all. Children under age 16 are free with an adult. For safety reasons, strollers are not permitted in the Fair. Parking at the Chicago Botanic Garden is $20 per car; free for Garden members. Barrington Youth and Family Services Fundraising Gala: 6:30 p.m., April 20
, Barrington Hills Country Club, 300 W County Line Rd Barrington, (847) 381-4200. “Skyball,” a James Bond-themed gala, features an elegant dinner including James Bond’s signature Vesper martini, live music by Blonde Ambition, and a raffle drawing, live auction items and more. Per Amy Wickstrom, “Skyball” co-chair. “We’ve chosen five distinguished gentlemen in our community to help us boost raffle ticket pre-sales. The one who sells the most raffle tickets will be crowned Barrington Bond 007 at the gala. You can purchase a raffle ticket at various businesses in Barrington and write the name of your favorite Barrington Bond candidate on the back to help him reach his goal. The winner of the raffle will receive a gift certificate to Long & Company Jewelers.” The five men in the running to become Barrington Bond 007 include Barrington residents Jon Stickney, David Nelson, Paul Fischer, Jim Gustafson and Barrington High School Football Coach Joe Sanchez. Merchandise Mart International Antiques Fair Preview Party by The Women’s Board of The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC): 5:30-8 p.m. April 25. The event is a benefit for the RIC and features the finest assortment of objets d’art and a broad range of antiques and worldly treasures in an exclusive environment. Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago second annual “Veterans in Need” dinner: April 26, Union League Club, 65 W. Jackson Boulevard, Chicago. Aids in providing counseling, food, as well as housing and employment for homeless veterans at such facilities around Chicagoland such as the Bishop Goedert Residence, St. Leo Residence and Cooke’s Manor which provides alcohol and substance abuse rehabilitation and the Veteran’s Employment Program. 6 p.m. reception; 7:30 p.m. dinner; Former Secretary of Veteran’s Affairs R. Maze Home Store Booksigning/Fundraiser: 10 a.m.-8 p.m., April 26, 735 Elm St., Winnetka. Owner, Cindy Galvin hosts a book signing for children during the day and a kick-off for the outdoor entertaining season with picnic goods and a wine tasting during the evening hours. Bring your children- ages 4-8 - during the day for a book signing by author, Cynthia Bardes, author of Pansy at the Palace, the story is about a crime-solving dog in Hollywood. The Lake Forest Chapter of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago 15th biennial Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens: April 27-May 19. One of the top 10 showhouses in the country, this year’s home is one of David Adler’s most famous, an Italianate lakefront mansion built in 1916. It is well-preserved, with gardens overlooking Lake Michigan. Proceeds from the home tour will benefit the Angel Harvey Infant Welfare Society of Chicago Community Health Center.
