Morton Grove to talk plan for boosting business, industry

Morton Grove officials plan to sit down with local industry stakeholders to talk about an upcoming initiative aimed at boosting manufacturing.

Representatives from the village have invited manufacturing, industrial and office business owners to attend the Industrial Areas Meeting and Networking Breakfast on July 16.

The sit down, now in its second year, is slated as an informational session to discuss updates to the village’s upcoming Industrial Areas Plan, an initiative aimed at developing strategies “to help Morton Grove retain our existing businesses, facilitate expansion of those businesses, and recruit new, complementary business plans and programs.”

The village reached out to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning to construct the plan, the final draft of which is expected to be presented to the Plan Commission in August, said Community and Economic Development Director Nancy Radzevich.

“We hope that all of our Industrial Area Businesses can send at least one representative to this event,” the village said in a statement announcing the event. “[Their] input is important to the continued success of Morton Grove’s Industrial Areas Business Community.”

Morton Grove is home to two manufacturing districts: the North District, consisting solely of the Avon property near Golf Road, and the South District, spread out around Oakton Street and Austin Avenue. These districts provide a combined 57 percent of the jobs in Morton Grove, with 34 percent of these positions coming from manufacturing and 11 percent from wholesale trade industries.

At the breakfast, the village will also provide an overview of its new Façade Improvement Program, a grant-matching grant initiative “designed to assist businesses with improvements to the exterior appearance of their buildings and/or signage.” A networking and Q&A session is also scheduled at the end of the meeting.

The Industrial Areas Meeting and Networking Breakfast is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
