In the wake of a Morton Grove bank robbery on Friday afternoon, local police are preparing to turn over all the information they’ve gathered to the FBI for further investigation.
The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m. when a man walked into the MB Financial Bank branch at 9147 Waukegan Road, put a bag down on the counter and demanded money.
Morton Grove Police Commander Paul Yaras said a teller put money in the bag, and the man ran away. He did not display a gun, Yaras said.
“No weapon was displayed and no weapon was seen,” Yaras said.
Yaras said Monday that police were still waiting for information from the bank as to how much money was taken.
Yaras said police on Friday gathered fingerprints and DNA evidence from the bank. In addition, officers picked up other items outside of the bank that may have been left by the robber.
“We did find some things on the ground. We’re not sure if it’s his or not,” Yaras said.
After a teller filled the bag with money, Yaras said the man ran away northbound from the bank. No one saw him get into a car or another vehicle, Yaras said.
The FBI will handle the investigation from this point on, Yaras said.
The suspect was described as about 5-feet, 10-inches tall to 6-feet tall and weighing about 150 pounds, which would indicate a thin build, Hyde said.
“His face was too covered up for anyone to guess his age,” said FBI spokeswoman Special Agent Joan Hyde. Hyde said he was wearing a black and white bandana, dark-colored pants, a white T-shirt, a dark-colored hoodie and dark shoes.
Hyde said Monday that the man was heavily covered and so far has not been identified or connected with other robberies.
“So far they don’t believe so. It’s hard to say,” Hyde said. “He was very covered up. Right now they’re treating it as a one-time robbery.”
Surveillance photos from the bank are being posted at bandittracker.com along with information on the robbery, Hyde said.
