MORTON GROVE — A man who threatened an employee of a Morton Grove hair salon with a long-barreled revolver made off with $194 in cash in what police said is one in a series of similar crimes reported in the area.
The incident occurred at 8:20 p.m., Jan. 3 when the man entered Great Clips, 6761 Dempster St. holding the gun. According to police he approached an employee at the cash register, put a black backpack on the register and told her to put money in it. The employee put money in the backpack and the man fled, police said.
He was described by employees as between 35 and 45 years old, between 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 6 feet tall and 200 to 230 pounds. He was dressed in a black jacket, blue jeans, a gray knit stocking cap, green patterned scarf and black gloves.
Morton Grove investigators talked to Skokie Police who said the man appears to be the same one who has robbed several chain hair salons in Skokie, Niles, Glenview, Chicago, Lombard and Glen Ellyn since Dec. 26.
A second Skokie salon, identified as Supercuts at 3539 Dempster St., was robbed Jan. 10.
Authorities say the robber made off with $345 and fled in an unknown direction.
According to police, the victim recognized the suspect from a community alert recently released to all local hair salons due to the previous robberies reported.
