LONG GROVE — Matthew LaCroix is back on top.
The Long Grove resident and Morton Grove native has earned, for the second time, one of his workplace’s top accolades.
LaCroix is a financial advisor with the McTigue Financial Group, a Northbrook-based extension of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co.
For the second time, LaCroix and his staff have earned a place in Northwestern Mutual’s Forum group, an honor achieved by just the top two percent of the company’s agents.
Q: What does this award signify?
A: Forum is the top 200 financial advisors in the country for Northwest Mutual. It’s based on how much production you do as an agent. The bar this year is set at $478,000. For the company, I need to bring in $478,000 in premiums from my clients. Out of about 7,000, to be in the top 200 is a pretty elite group.
Q: How does it feel to reach this level this again?
A: It’s extremely gratifying. It’s an unbelievable achievement to be part of the best of the best.
Q: What got you into insurance?
A: I grew up in Morton Grove, and I used to caddy at a country club. There’s a gentleman who still works for the company. I was just buying a golf bag for my father for Christmas, and he asked what I was doing after I graduated, and he thought that I would be great at doing what he does. That was 19 years ago.
Q: What gave him that impression?
A: I was very hardworking. I put myself through college by caddying. Basically, I’m in business for myself, so you need that type of attitude to be successful.
Q: What brought you to Long Grove?
A: We used to live in Wheeling, and when we were looking at houses, we were looking at schools. My wife made a folder for every house we looked at — she’s very analytical in that way. The schools in Long Grove were very good.
Q: Can you get into the Forum again?
A: We’re on pace for it. I’m on pace to do it again this year. Our fiscal year goes from the beginning of June through the end of May, so we’re more than halfway there.
Q: What’s fun to do around Long Grove?
A: The kids. We’re pretty busy. I coach T-ball with my son. I’m in Indian Princesses with my daughter. In fact, I’m going to be the chief of the tribe in a couple months.
